Feria de Abril
In collaboration with internationally renowned, London-based Flamenco dancers and singers Lola Rueda, Carolina Esteves and guitarist Fernando de Sevilla, we are bringing to you La 'Feria de Abril', a wonderful event taking place in Seville two weeks after Easter. Each April, the city shrugs off Lent with an explosive week-long fiesta where no one can remain a spectator for long. What began in the mid-19th century as a cattle fair has developed into a spectacular six-day extravaganza, when the entire city devotes itself to music and dance 24 hours a day. La Feria gathers every year more than 1,000 striped 'casetas' (party tents), endless strings of multicoloured paper lanterns and brilliant lights amid a cacophony of passionate 'Sevillanas'.
What to expect from the night: a live flamenco performance with some of Spain's most exciting artists; a lively Sevillanas party where everyone is welcome to dance and have fun; and a selection of stalls offering authentic Spanish food (tapas, jamón, tortillas) and drinks traditionally found at la Feria de Abril.
Artists — Lola Rueda (Voice): a well-known personality in London's vibrant flamenco scene, born in Girona, who has performed at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the National Theatre, Laban Centre and Ronnie Scotts. Carolina Esteves (Dance): flamenco dancer and instructor who studied in Madrid with great names of flamenco — La China, La Truco, Belén Fernández and Yolanda Heredia at Amor de Dios. Fernando de Sevilla (Guitar/Voice): guitarist, singer and composer born in Triana, Seville, who has collaborated with renowned bailaores including Lola Rueda and Carolina Esteves.
